The 570 portable fishfinder by Humminbird is a little hard to wrap your head around. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with it – in fact, the technology is fine.
It’s capable of sounding down to 800 feet at both 200 kHz and 83 kHz, so you know that you’ll get a good crisp image when necessary. The screen is a very standard 5 inch diagonal display that has 640 by 320 pixels (just like every other unit in this series).
The problem we have with this is that we feel it is eclipsed by the 570di portable model. This unit is $100 less on retail, but for the extra $100 the down imaging technology that is new for 2011 is a good investment. The image quality for the regular 570 portable is good enough in its own right, and if you don’t feel like spending an extra $100 it will do very good for you. But if you’re looking for a little bit of an upgrade for your portable fishfinder, the down imaging version is a better deal.
